Simon Says Stamps – No line watercolour of spring birds

Hi guys, today I am sharing a card that took me a while to make, but I am in love with the results. After watching a lot of Debby Hughes videos, I wanted to try no line water coloring. I tried a while ago, but never really like the results, but when I received these birds, I thought it would fun to try with this stamp set.

For no line colouring, I used distress ink antique linen and I stamped the birds and the branches from SSS Spring birds stamp set on Canson XL watercolour paper. I die cut, with the same paper the bitty birdhouse from SSS.

For the watercolour, I chose to use distress inks. For inspiration, I looked at images because I absolutely wanted those two birds on my card. I used a micron pen for the eyes and the legs of the birds.

For the cardinal:

  • Barn door – Distress ink
  • Aged Mahogany – Distress ink
  • Black Soot – Distress ink
  • Polychromos pencils to add more shadows.

For the goldfinch (I changed the stamp a bit so it fits the bird that I wanted):

  • Mustard Seed – Distress ink
  • Black Soot – Distress ink
  • Polychromos pencils for the shadows.

For the branches:

  • Walnut stain – Distress ink
  • Peeled Paint – Distress ink
  • Rustic Wilderness – Distress ink
  • Polychromos pencils

For the background, I used distress spray strain Speckled Egg (my favorite colour) and distress oxide spray weathered wood on Canson Xl watercolour paper. I used rectangle infinity die from Hero Arts to cut my panel. My card base is a Taylored Expressions sea salt cardstock.

I finished the card using a sentiment from lime citron and I used Studio Katia shimmer pearls to add some “bling”.
